WordCamp 09 was a get together of WordPress users, developers, designers, geeks and tech heads. A number of workshops were held across the weekend.  These included sessions on SEO, a workshop from Google about how their search engine works with WordPress and a talk from the designer/developer of Stephen Fry’s new WordPress site. I have updated the manual we have produced to accompany the WordPress aspects of the course. The manual contains the information taught on the courses with Mark Walker and Mark James as well as additional information that isn’t covered on the WordPress site and in WordPress for Dummies. It’s 59 pages long and is updated on a regular basis. I wouldn’t recommend printing the whole manual but you might wish to print out sections.

The main changes are:

  1. expanded section on working with images, including editing images and links to web recourses
  2. more about categories
  3. removal of Flickr RSS feed section because it has been disabled by Flickr

You can find the latest version on the Downloads Section

The manual was written by Mark James and Helen Goss.

Nice pic of the group that we’re teaching about web design at St George’s Hall in Moulsecoomb, Brighton. Today was the first of four half days and we managed to have everyone up and running with a page within an hour.

090629moulsecoombgroupLibby Davy then offered an eagle eye view of the internet, discussing Facebook and social web and blogging, to get their ideas flowing. This brought out lots of interesting comments and ideas and will definitely bear fruit as we knuckle down to learning how tio use WordPress.

As well as a local Councillor this small group of six also includes several people from the Local Area Team so I hope we can help them create a site which links together the many groups that are active in the area.
