SCIP is running a lunchtime briefing on WordPress.com on Monday 20th September. This is an ideal opportunity for people new to WordPress to come along and find out what all the fuss is about. Learn how the tools work, see some examples, and find out whether it’ll work for you. There will be an opportunity to ask questions at the end of the presentation.

A light lunch and refreshments will be served, and there’ll be plenty of opportunities to talk to the SCIP team, and network with other attendees.

For more details and booking information, please go to Eventbrite.

Come and find out what all the fuss is about. Can free blogging software be used to produce a “proper” website?
The WordPress.com service is completely free and could be the solution for small groups needing to start an online presence.

Learn how the tools work, see some examples, and find out whether it’ll work for you.

Word has reached SCIP of another free icon website – Find Icons.  Tens of thousands of icons, all neatly arranged in sets.  Well worth a look!

BE Inspired Films logoVideo is now very easy to include on your website, especially in WordPress.  Creating effective video is as much about getting the planning and strategy right as it is filming and editing.  This three part guide from Be Inspired Films will help you plan, produce and publish your videos simply and effectively.

The guide is free when you subscribe to their site (no charge).  The guide is easy to understand and will save you time and stress, whether you’re going for a short ‘talking head’ snippet, or a more ambitious video shoot.

There are lots and lots of blogs supporting WordPress – some better than others. OneCoolSiteBloggingTips is one of the best we’ve seen.  It’s operated by “TimeThief” – a name that you will have seen if you’ve ever had to look at the WordPress Support and Forums pages.

It’s an simple site to navigate around and set out in an easy to read magazine style.  Another highly recommended site for your bookmarks list.

Well designed icons make a real difference to how people view, navigate and respond to your site.  IconFinder is a rich resource of free icons – available as individual items or in sets where relevant.
